I heard the door slam, and moments later he returned: with armfuls of lemongrass, humanely terminated free-range chickens and fresh greens, and he whipped up a soup to cure me. To soothe the symptoms of a cursed go-between, this magnetar of a record (an uncomfortable meditation on bad manners), was recorded in the foul summer of 2006. It then sat in my grotesquely overpopulated, roman holiday of a closet, awaiting its vocal tracks, which were finally realized in the illustrious Australian summer of 2008. Being predisposed to insults, I would like to say now that I love this record with all my guts and find it very much worth the wait (I hope you’ll agree, though I sense some of you may not). This project, as many before it, though one small step in my (our) personal therapy, still bears the question: is our footing sure enough to be trusted?

This morning, I went to pull out my plugs to clean them, and the o-rings came out with them (I was wearing stone plugs, and they have a groove at the end). So for shits and giggles, Ashley had me try a pair of her 4g plugs. And they went right in! Sure, a little bit of pressure, but that’s to be expected as I put in plugs that are a full mm larger than what I’ve been wearing. I was going to build my collection of 6g jewelry, since I didn’t plan on stretching my lobes until late summer. But not even a month after I got pierced, and I’m already up to the next size. Ashley also has 4g lobes, so this means the amount of jewelry at my disposal has just grown considerably. I sort of hope my septum does the same thing. That shit hurt like a motherfucker when I got it pierced.

So here’s my Bodyartforms wishlist in case you want to buy me things!

(And while I’m at it, you don’t GAUGE your piercings, you STRETCH them. That shit’s always driven me crazy.)

Surely you’ve seen the video of the guy who shot his daughter’s laptop as punishment. The majority of commenters on the Internet seem to be siding with the father, claiming that the daughter wasn’t receptive to conventional means of punishment, so he stood his ground, and took things to the next level. People claim that this will have an impact on the girl. They are right, however, it won’t have an impact that is healthy or productive.

I want to preface this by saying that I’m not against chores. I’m not against disciplining your child when they are in the wrong. That’s not what this is about. A big problem I have is that this man used public humiliation and shame in an attempt to teach his daughter a lesson. Those sorts of tactics don’t teach a lesson; rather, they make the child feel as though they’re a bad person. He justifies it by saying that she made it pubic by posting it to Facebook, however she had privacy settings on her account that would only allow her friends to view her activity. He breached her privacy to view posts he wasn’t meant to see, and that is wrong. Full stop. There’s a debate as to whether or not the daughter bought the laptop. I tend to believe she did. That said, even if she didn’t, what is he going to do when she can’t do her schoolwork now that she doesn’t have a computer?

Another problem I have with the way this man went about this whole thing is using lethal force to destroy her computer. You could say he did it for show since it’s on YouTube, and it probably wouldn’t have gotten so many views if he just dropped it out his window, but it’s the message he’s sending in the way he’s doing it. When he posted the video to his daughter’s Facebook, he sent a message: you better watch out, because this what I’m capable of.

All that said, sure, teenagers can be cunts. They need to be disciplined, but this isn’t how you do it. You’re damn right that this is going to have an impact on this man’s daughter. She is going to trust him even less than she already did, and is going to be less open about her emotions.
